In the second place, today I would like to speak about the importance of the child psychology.
While you are teaching you are improving, it is for this reason that you will be a better teacher some years after you became to teach. However is difficult that you be a genie. It’s not impossible, but it’s less usual. Nowadays is very easy to take information about main psychologes and pedagogs. If you know this information you will be a better teacher faster, and along your career you will be more professional. Then, you must know the most important theories and you have to put into practice with some modern variations. It’s important, for example, to know The Multiple Intelligences Theory. For Gardner, the Intelligence is the ability to solve a problem. It is more, for this philosopher, the aptitude to solve a problem depends of the context in which the child lives. Then, our most important objective is that our pupils keep happy and intelligent. As a result, we have to tried very hard they are relaxed and confident in their selves. In consequence, our communication with children’s families is very important. It’s essential we are friendly with them, because then they will be pleased with us, and it is good for the children.

r pupils’ parents than with themselves! It is very hard, overall, when you have to explain child’s problems to a family who is living a difficult moment. You can think that it is not very often, but I can say you that it is the most common, because when a child has a problem, normally he/she is not well at home. Sometimes you can predict a separate marriage because of their son/daughter. Then, you have to speak with the parents and you have to try to help them with the centre psychologes.

It’s not easy, but it is necessary, overall in dramatic cases like bad treatment.
But when you are a teacher you are not alone. You are backed in the other teachers, in the psychologes, in the social services team, in the children’s parents, and in the pupils. All us are a team which objective is learning, not teaching. Teacher only are one of the pieces of the puzzle. But if you are still reading this lines, you, like me, are sure too that in education, more important than to gain time it is just to spend it.

ReplyDeleteDon’t worry about your English, I could understand you perfectly. Then, it’s not so bad! I have a lot of doubts about mine, too. I would like to go to work to China in some years. It’s for this reason that I must hard study English and Chinese. Some day I will explain you my interesting plans!
Regarding the decision about Primary or Kinder Garden, it is not as important as do you think:
1. When you finish your Kinder Garden degree you have a Teacher diploma. With this you can teach in Primary School and in the Kinder Garden too. As well, you have another certificate to qualify you to teach catalan. Then, if you studies Kinder Garden degree but when you are working you discovers that you prefer Primary School, you will be able to work in Primary courses without doing anything else.
2. When you finish your Primary degree you have a Teacher diploma that allows you to teach in Primary courses, but not in Kinder Garden stage. But if you prefer Kinder Garden, you can try to pass the competitive exam to teach in a public Kinder Garden. If you approve the competitive examination you will be able to teach in the Kinder Garden and in Primary anyway.
3. Subjects in Primary and Kinder Garden degrees are very similar. It is easy to study both specialities with almost the same subjects. In any case, if you don’t know what you do prefer I can invite you to spend one afternoon or morning in our school, it depends on your studies. You could visit Kinder Garden and Primary school when teachers and pupils are working. Then you would make a close idea of working in each stage much better. If you can’t visit us or if you don’t fancy it, I advise you should try Kinder Garden studies, because you will teach directly in the both stages.
In my case, I had been teaching in Primary School and I loved, I changed my job to try in a nursery and it captivated me. I taught in Secondary stage, with teenagers with psychologist and psychiatrist problems and it was really interesting. Now, I’m working in the Kinder Garden and I enjoy myself very much. But I’m sure that it isn’t my last station in my working way, because I think that changes are good and enlightening. In my opinion your studies like a teacher are just the beginning of a really interesting professional life… or not, it depends on you.

ReplyDeleteWhen you have kindergarten degree you can teach in every course of primary, not only in the early years.
When I was working with secondary stage pupils, the school that contracted me was looking for a primary's teacher. The kindergarten diploma turns you be able to teach in every work that demands somebody who has a primary diploma.
When you finish your primary or kindergarten teacher degree you have a lot of possibilities. It’s so different but, what do you think about working in TV? Some children’s television programmes need teachers to design their contents. Cinema and state of the art technology is another way, not less interesting than the school, in my opinion.
Another very amazing option for the government teachers is that we have the possibility to work abroad. Today my dream is to prepare myself to go to an international college where I will teach Spanish to Chinese students in secondary stage. There are teachers from other nationalities and I’m sure that it will be a very enlightening experience. Government allows me to stay six years there without losing my definitely post, at present in Marta Mata’s Primary and Kindergarten school, in Viladecans.
Don’t worry about your visit at my school. We’ll work every day at the end of Jun ;) We will talk about it when you finish exams.
This week I have to deliver an essay for my Chinese classes and I think that I will not be able to write in the blog so much. In anyway, if I can help you with your research, you only have to say it and I’ll try it.
Susan, Chinese is probably so different than others languages that we have frequently heard or studied and in consequence, for us, it is true that is more difficult than English, Catalan, French or Spanish, for example. But there are a lot of millions people in China speaking in Chinese, so it couldn’t be impossible to learn! ;) If we study so hard I think we will learn it! Don't you think so?
